The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, has thrown his weight behind government efforts to accelerate agribusiness-led development in northern Ghana, following a high-level engagement with the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.

The meeting, held on Monday, 26th January 2026, focused on practical, action-oriented initiatives aimed at transforming agriculture into a sustainable engine for jobs, income generation and inclusive economic growth in the northern regions.

Central to the discussions was the Savanna Farmers Brigade, a flagship intervention designed to empower farmers while deliberately creating employment opportunities for young people along the agricultural value chain. The initiative seeks to move agriculture beyond subsistence, positioning it as a viable, modern livelihood capable of absorbing the growing youth population.

The engagement also examined the Northern Ghana–Kanu Trade Partner Development Project, an initiative targeted at strengthening agribusiness growth, improving market access and enhancing trade linkages for producers across the northern belt. The project is expected to boost value addition, expand agro-processing activities and connect local producers to both domestic and export markets.

Speaking in his capacity as Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, Buipewura Jinapor II briefed the Minister on a proposed platform that brings traditional authorities together to actively support government development programmes. A major pillar of the initiative is the provision of litigation-free lands, a long-standing barrier to investment, to attract agribusiness investors, promote agro-industrialisation and facilitate infrastructure development.

Welcoming the initiative, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed government’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers as key partners in national development. She stressed that unlocking the economic potential of northern Ghana requires strong collaboration, secure land tenure systems and targeted investments that promote value addition and shared prosperity.

The meeting highlighted a growing consensus between government and traditional leadership that agriculture and trade must be treated as strategic tools for economic transformation, particularly in underserved regions. Both parties underscored the urgency of translating policy into action to ensure that agribusiness becomes a source of dignity, opportunity and long-term development for communities across northern Ghana.
