The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has stated that her ministry does not receive sufficient funding from the government.

However, she said President John Dramani Mahama is still commited to supporting the creative and cultural industries.

Speaking on ChannelOne TV with Umaru Sanda Amadu on February 25, 2026, Gomashie was asked whether the ministry gets “enough money” to carry out its mandates.

She responded in the negative, saying the shortfall is due to limited national resources.

“There isn’t enough to give us. I think I’ll concede that there isn’t enough, but the government is committed,” she said.

The minister also shared a story from a recent Cabinet meeting about the Fugu Day initiative, a government effort to promote Ghana’s traditional fugu garment.

“I was so excited about this fugu thing that it had turned out the way it did. I remeber we were at a Cabinet meeting and he said that “they are saying that I said they should wear fugu but I don’t remember where I said that.’

“I said ‘I did.’ He said, ‘Of course it’s you.’

“And he said that he didn’t get the information early, so that day, he wasn’t wearing it but going forward, he’ll try and wear fugu as well,” she narrated.

Dzifa Gomashie also cited her own position as evidence of the president’s belief in the tourism and creative arts sector.

“I don’t need to preach to you about how President Mahama believes in this sector. I am an example of what he thinks of the sector. The fact that he put one of the people from the sector in the space is proof enough. And his actions show,” she stated.
