Tottenham Hotspur new coach Roberto De Zerbi has revealed that Mohammed Kudus was a central figure in his plans at Tottenham Hotspur before the Ghanaian suffered a fresh injury setback.
The 25-year-old has endured a difficult spell on the sidelines after suffering a relapse in his recovery from a long-term injury that has kept him out since January, dealing a major blow to Spurs’ attacking options.
The North London side have struggled throughout the campaign, going through multiple managerial changes before the appointment of De Zerbi, who now faces the task of turning their fortunes around.
Tottenham currently sit 17th on the table with 30 points, just one point above the relegation zone.
Speaking ahead of his debut match against Sunderland, De Zerbi admitted Kudus was a crucial part of his tactical thinking but stressed the team must move forward in his absence.
“Kudus was in my head a crucial player, especially for the position, but we have to look forward anyway.”
“I think we have a lot of very good attackers and we have to help them, to put them in the best condition to show their qualities.”
Tottenham Hotspur will face Sunderland on Sunday, April 12 at 13:00 GMT, as De Zerbi begins his tenure with the challenge of navigating the team out of danger without one of his key players.
