Every foreign criminal would be deported from Britain under Tory plans being unveiled by Kemi Badenoch‘s party today.

All offenders convicted of ‘anything more than a parking ticket’ could be evicted as part of the plans.

The Tories estimate it would boost deportations from 6,000 to 40,000 people a year.

It would apply to those already in prison who would be deported on release as well as those who commit any offences. Criminals would also be banned from claiming asylum under the policy.

The ‘law and order’ announcement comes ahead of Tory party conference next week, where the MoS understands they will also announce a prison building plan to create 50,000 new prison places.

Chris Philp, Tory Shadow Home Secretary who is fronting the new policy, said: ‘We must deport all foreign criminals – it’s that simple. If someone comes to Britain and commits a crime, once jail time is served, they must go.

‘Labour continues to let serious foreign criminals roam our streets, and many go on to commit more serious crimes. We will not apologise for putting the safety of the British public first.’

The law currently states that foreign criminals are deported if they are sentenced to a year or more.

But the Tories argue that ‘lawfare’ frustrates the removal of criminals and means they stay even if they have no right to be here.

The radical plan would require Britain to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which is often used by lawyers to hamper deportation flights.

It would also see the Human Rights Act and Modern slavery laws being repealed or replaced – which the Tories say are ‘outdated’.

Ms Badenoch would also strip citizenship from dual national offenders to make it easier to deport them.

Any country which refuses to take back offenders will face visa sanctions and cuts to overseas aid, according to the plan.

While ministers insist that deportations have increased under Labour, only 6,000 offenders were removed last year.

The Tories believe there are 20,000 people who should be deported under the current rules but have not been.

The ambitious plan would be enforced by making immigration checks part of routine police work so that it is easier to find and remove those who are in Britain illegally.

Her party was buoyed by recent polls which showed a boost in support and that they would have more seats than Reform for the first time in two years.

Tory high command will hope that a raft of fresh policies like this at next week’s conference in Birmingham will help capitalise on this momentum.

It is part of the Tories’ strategy to try and regain trust on immigration after successive Conservative governments presided over record arrivals.

It is unlikely to be welcomed by Labour, which is this weekend embroiled in a bitter row over proposed immigration changes.

Angela Rayner branded Shabana Mahmood’s plan to make it harder for migrants to get citizenship ‘unfair’ and ‘un-British’.

A government spokesperson said: ‘Any foreign national who receives a prison sentence in the UK is referred for deportation at the earliest opportunity and will be barred from ever returning.’
