Mali head coach, Tom Saintfiet has opened the door to coaching the Black Stars after the expiration of his contract with the Eagles.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire show on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the Belgian tactician admitted that he would be interested in the Ghana role in the future.

“[Ghana coach] Otto Addo has a contract till 2027. My contract ends in August 2026. As soon as I’m free and my contract with Mali has expired, I’ll be interested. For now, I’m focused on Mali,” Saintfiet revealed.

On the eve of the crucial Ghana-Mali clash in Accra, Saintfiet disclosed during his pre-match conference that he was among the candidates shortlisted for the Black Stars job in 2024.

He confirmed that he held a four-hour discussion with the Ghana Football Association before Otto Addo was appointed.

Saintfiet, who previously led The Gambia to consecutive Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 and 2023, insisted that his immediate focus is on Mali.

Yet with his contract set to expire in 2026, he has not hidden his admiration for the Black Stars and will be keeping an eye on opportunities that may arise in the future.
