The Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has explained why he did not serve as chairman of the 35th Farmers’ Day celebration in 2019 despite being held in the Volta Region.

According to him, he had been invited to chair the event in Ho; however, his invitation was abruptly withdrawn a day before the ceremony.

Togbe Afede, the Asogli traditional leader, attributed the withdrawal to what he described as the ‘pettiness’ of the time.

He expressed pleasure and delight at being invited to grace the occasion as chairman for the 2025 celebration held in Ho.

“This morning while I was with my elders, we recalled that Ho hosted the 35th Farmers Day on December 6, 2019. I was invited to chair the event as I was invited to today’s celebration. Then all of a sudden on the day before the event, my nomination was withdrawn thanks to the pettiness of those days. Here am I again today, privileged to be chairman of the 41st celebration,” he said.

Earlier in 2019, Togbe Afede XIV, who was then President of the National House of Chiefs, was absent from the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration, themed ‘Enhancing Small-Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development,’ despite the event being held in his own ‘backyard’.

Meanwhile, 82-year-old Abraham Kwaku Adusei, has been adjudged the Overall Best National Farmer for 2025 at the 41st National Farmers’ Day Ceremony held in Ho, on Friday, December 5, 2025.
