Today Show host Savannah Guthrie‘s mother has been reported missing in Arizona under ‘disturbing’ circumstances.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Saturday night near her home in Tucson, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.

She was spotted at her house at around 9.30 to 9.45pm, Sheriff Chris Nanos said, but at around noon on Sunday, a family member called 911 to report her missing.

When deputies then investigated her disappearance, Nanos said they found ‘concerning evidence’ – prompting homicide detectives to assist in the investigation. He would not elaborate on what that evidence may be, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

‘We hope we find her safe and sound, but we are very concerned,’ Nanos said.

He emphasized at a news briefing that the case is being handled as a search and rescue operation, but said investigators are not ruling out the possibility of foul play.

Search efforts are now ongoing throughout the Tucson area, with crews using dogs, drones and even the sheriff’s department’s plane to search the Catalina Foothills neighborhood for the missing woman.

Deputies also checked with local hospitals and medical transport teams, but no hospital staff has reported seeing Nancy, the sheriff noted.

‘We’re pretty much throwing everything at this,’ he said.

It is unclear what she may have been wearing at the time of her disappearance.

She is considered a ‘vulnerable adult’ mostly due to her age and physical mobility issues, deputies said, noting that she does not have any cognitive issues.

Savannah has not yet commented on the situation.

The Today Show host was raised in Tucson and graduated from the University of Arizona. She was in the city late last year, filming segments introducing the audience to her hometown.

But Nancy would also often visit her daughter on set in New York City, where the Today Show host would gush about her mother.

‘When I was in my 30s, I really wished to be married and to be a mom, and things just did not happen that fast for me,’ Savannah once said on the show.

‘And my mom’s confidence that I would be a mom — even as the years ticked by and ticked by and ticked by — meant so much to me. She said, “Of course you’ll be a mom, and you’re going to be a wonderful mom.”

‘And for her to have that confidence and faith was so meaningful to me. It got me through some really hard times.’
