A three-bedroom mews house in the heart of London has caught the attention of house hunters online – and not just because of the imposing garden feature that has consumed the entire house.
The shadowy property situated in the affluent area of Camden in North London has been put up for auction starting at a guide price of £925,000.
But potential buyers might be put off by the inside of the end of terrace house in Camden Mews which is described in the listing as ‘offering potential for re-development’.
Pictures of the interior show filthy rooms with a collapsed ceiling and rubbish strewn everywhere.
Spiders webs cover the bathroom, which features a bidet that appears not to have been flushed for many, many years.
Many online theorised that the property was either previously owned by a hoarder or must have been inhabited by squatters to get into such a state of disrepair.
The ad listing by Auction House London on Rightmove describes the property as ‘A well-located four room end of terrace house on a corner plot measuring approximately 170 square metres, offering potential for re-development (subject to obtaining the necessary consents).’
The property, which is situated near to Caledonian Park, Camden Town, and a short walk from two tube stations, has been in the same family ownership for over 35 years, the listing states.

It continues: ‘The property is situated on a residential road close to local shops and amenities.
‘The open spaces of Camden Square Gardens are within easy reach.
‘Transport links are provided by Camden Town underground station (Northern line) and Camden Road overground station.
‘The property comprises a four room end of terrace house arranged over ground and first floors.’
It adds: ‘The property requires a program of refurbishment.’
Indeed, one of the ad pictures include a ‘CGI image’ asking potential buyers to imagine what the property COULD look like, with more care and attention.
A computer-generated image of a polished and de-hedged version of the property’s exterior was captioned: ‘This image is a CGI representation of the property with surrounding foliage removed.
‘It is provided as an artist’s impression only and may not reflect the property with complete accuracy.

‘All interested buyers must undertake their own due diligence.’
But some Reddit users thought the price was steep given the dilapidated state of the home.
One commented: ‘I got hepatitis just looking at those pictures’ while another said ‘dry heaving at photo 14’.
Another user said: ‘This is an insane price even for Camden to demolish and create something new on the plot.’
The average sold price for other houses along the same road was £1,338,085 over the last year, according to data from Rightmove.
The majority of homes sold were terraced houses, which sold for an average of £1,273,670, semi-detached properties sold for an average of £1,525,000 and flats went for £1,280,000.
According to property specialists Lurot Brand, Camden Mews is one of longest stretches of mews houses in London, at roughly 720 metres.
The experts say the street has been known since the 1960s for its ‘architect-designed studio houses and artistic community’.
Some Reddit users were optimistic about the property. One commented: ‘Assuming you could get planning permission I bet you could put flats or something on that. It’s a decent plot.’
Another said: ‘Decent price for that much house and garden in Camden. Couple of coats of dulux trade and good to go.’
