Thousands of Victorians have been warned they could be at risk of contracting measles after the state’s health authority revealed a list of more than 20 exposure sites.

On Saturday, Victoria’s Department of Health confirmed two new cases of measles had been detected, bringing the state’s total to four confirmed cases in 2026.

All cases were linked to overseas travel from South-East and South Asia.

Anyone who attended the exposure sites, which include hospitals, airports and shopping centres, during the specified dates and times is advised to monitor for symptoms of measles for up to 18 days after their visit.

The symptoms include a fever, cough, runny nose, red or sore eyes or feeling generally unwell, which is usually followed by a rash that often starts on the face before spreading down the body.

Anyone experiencing these symptoms is urged to seek medical care and inform the health service beforehand that you may have been exposed to measles.

‘If you have not received two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR vaccine) or are unsure, please contact your GP as you may be recommended to receive preventive treatment,’ Victoria’s Department of Health said in a statement.

‘This works best when given soon after being exposed, usually within 72 hours (with MMR vaccine) or up to 6 days (with immunoglobulin for at-risk groups such as young infants, pregnant women and immunocompromised people).’
