Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Teye Partey, has opened up about his early days as a footballer in the country before leaving to Europe.

In a heartfelt revelation during the interview with Kafui Dey and shared on his X account on June 23, 2025, Partey disclosed that he left Ghana with just a little of his belongings.

He noted that he went on the flight wearing a Ronaldinho jersey and a pair of boots, without a jacket.

Partey recounted his humble beginnings, saying, “I left Ghana in a Ronaldinho jersey, boots and without a jacket to chase my football dreams in Europe.”

When asked about how he felt stepping into the airplane for the first time he said, “oh I just slept. I was so tired from all the hustle of Ashaiman. All this aero plane experience is like chilling.”

He talked about how his contemporaries would often adopt nicknames based on international football stars.

Specifically, Partey mentioned that he used to fantasise on how to play like Zinedine Zidane when he was a young boy.

He recounted a memorable experience from his school days when his father took him to a painting shop.

Despite the initial excitement, the experience did not resonate with him.

“I went only once. It was boring. It’s not like football because my friends are going somewhere to play and enjoy themselves, and I was just sitting in the painting room,” he recounted.

Partey’s journey has been an inspiration to many young footballers in Ghana and beyond.

His story serves as a testament to the power of determination and the rewards that come with hard work and dedication.

Reflecting on his time from playing Colts football in Ghana to becoming a key player for Arsenal and the Black Stars; Partey’s rise is a shining example of what can be achieved with passion and perseverance.

As a respected figure in Ghanaian football, Partey’s story is likely to motivate a new generation of footballers.

His experience, both on and off the pitch, has shaped him into a leader and a role model.

With his participation, the Black Stars are hopeful of achieving great success in upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
