Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, is a major doubt for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

The Ghanaian international, who has struggled with injuries, was once again forced off during the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Partey opened the scoring for Arsenal in the match but was substituted with just over twenty minutes remaining.

Many believed the substitution was a decision by Arteta to rest him ahead of the upcoming clash against Real Madrid.

However, after the game, Arteta confirmed that Partey had picked up a knock and decided not to take any risks regarding his fitness.

“We didn’t expect the issue with Thomas that led to his substitution. He felt something, so we didn’t want to take any risks. We don’t know the diagnosis yet — I haven’t spoken to the doctors. They will check him now and assess his condition,” Arteta stated.

Arsenal heads into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final with a 3-0 advantage, having thrashed Real Madrid on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Despite this strong position, the Gunners looked far from their best on Saturday, as Yoane Wissa scored in the 74th minute to equalize after Partey’s opener.

The draw leaves Arsenal 10 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have the chance to extend their lead to 13 points with a win against West Ham on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
