A video depicting how a mother reacted to the news of the passing of legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba has been trending on social media.

Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, died in the early hours of July 26, 2025, after a brief illness, at age 60. His passing was met with shock and mourning from Ghanaians, as they took to social media to share anecdotes about the artiste.

In this particular video shared by the lady’s daughter, the woman, who appeared to be in her middle years, was in the midst of her family when she was told that her favourite musician had died.

The woman, sudden fear on her face, quickly asked, “Who?”

When she was told, “Daddy Lumba,” shock crossed her face. She clasped her hands over her heart and bowed her head, visibly shaken, as her family consoled her.

Her reaction was just one of many from Ghanaians, as they continue to mourn the loss of a cultural and musical icon.

Born on September 29, 1964, at Nsuta, in the Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba began his musical journey in the 1980s with the Lumba Brothers, alongside Nana Acheampong.

Over a storied career spanning more than 30 albums, he released timeless hits such as “Aben Wo Ha,” “Theresa,” “Yentie Obiaa,” and “Playboy.”

His music came to define Ghanaian Highlife and resonated deeply across generations and national borders.

Industry peers and fans alike are expressing heartbreak over the loss.

As tributes pour in from fans, entertainers, and dignitaries, Ghana’s music landscape reflects profound grief mingled with immense gratitude.
