Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia graced the launch of the Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), a locally developed streaming platform.

The GMX is set to become the country’s premier digital hub for local music, offering a comprehensive library that includes highlife, hiplife, afrobeat, and traditional folk, aiming to make Ghanaian music accessible both locally and internationally.

Vice President Bawumia, speaking as the special guest of honour, emphasised the significance of GMX as a platform that both preserves Ghana’s cultural heritage and provides new opportunities for local artists.

“This is a historic moment for Ghana, with our music, we are building a legacy that requires tools and platforms to ensure our artists receive recognition, compensation, and a rightful place on the global stage.

GMX is more than just a music streaming platform; it’s an embodiment of our culture and a support system for our artists.”

Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, echoed these sentiments, describing GMX as a “revolution in Ghana’s music landscape.”

He highlighted the platform’s potential to promote Ghanaian culture and attract a global audience, further contributing to tourism and national pride.

GMX’s CEO, Ato Eduenu Tandoh, noted that the platform was created to bring Ghanaians closer to their music heritage.

“Our goal is to provide an experience that helps people connect deeply with the music they love, while introducing them to new sounds, artists, and parts of our history,” Tandoh stated.

Tandoh also called on private entities and investors to join GMX in its mission, inviting them to support Ghana’s musicians.

“This is more than just a streaming service; it’s a movement for Ghana’s music industry,” he said while thanking the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture for its partnership in bringing GMX to life.

Bessa Simons, President of MUSIGA, lauded GMX as a critical step toward uniting Ghanaian musicians under a shared platform that values their contributions.

“This is more than a technological advancement; it’s a leap toward realizing our vision of a thriving music industry in Ghana,” Simons said.

He urged artists and music lovers alike to embrace GMX.

Traditional artiste King Ayisoba performed at the event, captivating the audience and setting a tone of cultural pride for the platform’s future.

GMX has announced partnerships to onboard content from national sources and will host music spanning from traditional folk to modern genres.

GMX offers exclusive features designed to deepen user engagement with Ghanaian music. These include early access to new releases, artist interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and a recommendation engine powered by artificial intelligence to enhance music discovery.

With both free and premium subscription options, GMX promises to make Ghanaian music more accessible while supporting artists through fair compensation.

The platform is part of a broader strategy to protect artists’ work from piracy, ensuring that they benefit from their art. Available on both iOS and Android, GMX aims to be a digital gateway for Ghanaian music, expanding its reach and helping local talent gain international recognition.
