Ghanaian actor Bernard Aduse Poku has shared how perseverance kept him relevant in the movie industry and eventually helped him become a star.

According to him, the first movie he was cast in ended up being aired without his scene included.

He recounted that for his debut role; he was given a scene in which he had to use a toothpick to clean his teeth after eating at a restaurant. Despite performing the role as instructed, his part was cut from the final version of the movie when it was released.

Speaking in an interview on The Delay Show on April 14, 2025, Bernard narrated how he was introduced to acting by a friend shortly after completing Senior High School.

“It was just by accident that I entered the movie industry. Do you remember, at the time, when you finish school, you have to wait for a while before going to the university?

“ So, I was just home, and a friend of mine, around 1999, was already involved in movies,” he explained.

“So, he introduced me to them, and I was given a scene where I had to use a toothpick to clean my teeth, portraying someone who had just finished eating. I did exactly that, but when the movie came out, my scene wasn’t included. Still, I never gave up because I really admired the movie industry.”

He also praised entertainment pundit and radio presenter Andy Dosty for playing a key role in promoting his breakthrough film Asem, which brought him into the limelight.

He further acknowledged Andy Dosty’s support in helping him transition into radio journalism on the side.
