After losing to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate after the Electoral Commission (EC) re-analyzed the results, Ewurabena Aubynn, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the Ablekuma North Constituency, expressed doubts about the election’s fairness. The news has sparked debate, with many people doubting the process’s accuracy.

Ewurabena spoke to the media shortly after the results were announced, expressing shock and dissatisfaction. She declared, “I won the election fairly.” “They made a mistake, and they are only human.” I don’t think the entire crew would be complicit, but some of them might have a conscience and some might wish to influence the procedure. During the recollation, Ewurabena also recalled a heated conversation with an EC official, in which she accused the official of procedural errors. “I questioned the EC official who approved the unlawful action, and he confirmed that a director had approved it,” she said. “This suggests a deliberate effort to weaken the NDC, but we will not permit it in Ablekuma North.”

Although the NPP has historically held sway in Ablekuma North, Ewurabena contended that the results of this year’s election showed weaknesses in the party’s hold on power. “The NPP won by a margin of 2,400 votes in 2020, but they are having trouble winning even in 10 polling places this time,” she said. Her remarks are indicative of general discontent with the way the EC handled the elections and claims of its lack of openness. She affirmed the NDC’s resolve to oppose any unfair methods by vowing, “They can try to manipulate the process, but we won’t accept it.”

The issue surrounding the recollation continues to fuel debate about the need for electoral changes and a more transparent process, even as the NPP celebrates its triumph. NDC supporters, many of whom believe the party was treated unfairly during the election, have been mobilized by Ewurabena’s outspoken criticism.
