Afrobeats musician, Davido, has attributed the global dominance of Nigerian musicians over their equally talented Ghanaian counterparts to the relentless drive of Nigerians.

Speaking in an interview on ‘The Breakfast Club’ on April 8, 2025, Davido responded to the host’s question about why Ghana lacks artistes with the same international reach as Nigeria or South Africa.

While acknowledging Ghana’s wealth of talent, Charlamagne noted that its musicians have not achieved the same level of global prominence.

Davido, in response, explained that Nigerians’ bold and assertive approach sets them apart.

“It’s just the kind of people we are. Nigerians are very ‘in your face.’ If you go to any neighbourhood, you’ll find a Nigerian there. That’s how we are, we’re everywhere, pushing our craft,” he said.

The ‘Unavailable’ hitmaker stated that this aggressive self-promotion and relentlessness give Nigerian artistes an edge in breaking into international markets as compared to Ghanaians.

His comments follow years of comparisons on social media between Ghanaian acts and their Nigerian counterparts.

While many have blamed Ghanaian artistes for not pushing hard enough, others have pointed to factors such as Nigeria’s larger population, greater investment in its entertainment industry, and the presence of more Nigerian personalities in influential positions.

However, many Ghanaian acts, including Stonebwoy, Black Sherif, and King Promise, have also been making incredible exploits around the globe.
