Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is former Vice President of Ghana

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has stressed his commitment to serving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the people of Ghana, describing it as an overwhelming sense of duty.

Addressing party supporters on Thursday, August 28, 2025, after filing his nomination to contest the NPP’s flagbearer race set for January 31, 2026, Dr Bawumia said this commitment has been the underlining reason for various sacrifices he has made over the years.

“All my life, this country and this party have given me so much. I feel an overwhelming sense of duty to give back. That is why I didn’t hesitate to lay down my job at the BOG to assist the NPP’s quest for power in 2008. And indeed, I lost that gamble. That is why I did not hesitate to leave my Job at the African Development Bank to help the NPP in 2012.

“That is why I didn’t hesitate to take the Box at the Supreme Court as the star witness in 2013, to fight for the NPP. That is why I have never hesitated to defend this party even at the risk of mockery by our opponents. That is why I did not hesitate to concede the 2024 elections to preserve the nation’s peace,” he stated.

I demonstrate with results, not by insults or showing wealth – Dr Bawumia

Calling on party faithful and delegates to support his bid, Dr Bawumia pledged his full dedication to delivering on his mandate if given the nod as the party’s flagbearer and ultimately the president of Ghana.

“You can be sure, that with Mahamudu Bawumia as flagbearer, I shall not hesitate to put my all on the line for the NPP and for Ghana as I have done in the past.

“I implore you, to join me on this journey to rebuild our party and reposition this great tradition to deliver for Ghanaians from 2028. I am committed to doing this with you, the grassroots of the party, supported by the mighty minority of 88!” he said.

I’m the most prepared candidate for NPP and for president in 2028 – Bawumia declares

The New Patriotic Party has set January 31, 2026 to elect flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, whose nomination form was picked by a group of about 400 NPP youth organisers, is one of the key contenders going into the race.
