Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that changes will be made in the technical team of the Black Stars.

Media reports suggest that assistant coaches, John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann are likely to be shown exit as part of the readjustment of the technical team ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March later this year.

Speaking to Asempa FM in an interview, Asante Twum confirmed that there will be changes in the technical team of the team but refused to call out names.

“At the last Executive Council meeting, it was a subject that was thoroughly discussed and a number of suggestions came up aside from the head coach [Otto Addo], the input and the contributions of the assistant coaches were discussed since they came on board in March last year.

“All the work of the backroom staff was analyzed and discussed and eventually decided to ring some changes but specifically, I cannot confirm who will leave. Three people were given a task to return to the Executive Council with certain recommendations.

“A decision was made to bring changes to the technical team but in terms of the personalities, I cannot confirm but the decision will be very soon because there is no time for the team because we are playing World Cup qualifiers in March so if you are bringing in new faces, that has to be done on time so they can settle down before the next phase of the qualifiers,” he added.

Under the guidance of Otto Addo and his assistant coaches made up of John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann and Fatau Dauda, the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in two decades. The Black Stars recorded three defeats and three draws after six games during the qualifiers.

John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann replaced George Boateng and Didi Dramani as Black Stars assistant coaches in March 2024.
