Legendary Black Stars player, George Alhassan, has shared his thoughts on the captaincy issue in the Black Stars team that has raised concerns in the public.

According to him, he does not see anything wrong with a young player who is skilled and possesses the necessary leadership qualities leading the team at the expense of the more experienced players.

The Great Olympics legend underscored the assertion that more experienced and senior players should be prioritized over younger ones when considering whom to choose as Black Stars captain.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Alhassan cited an example of how there was an uproar in the Black Stars when the role was taken from Kwasi Appiah and given to Abedi Pele.

“If there is a young player in the team and his leadership is okay, why not? There is nothing wrong with making him the Black Stars captain.

“There was uproar when the captaincy was taken from Kwesi Appiah and given to Abedi Pele because of how it was taken from him,” he commented.

The remark was made in the context of the controversy in the Black Stars after head coach Otto Addo named Mohammed Kudus to captain the team in the AFCON qualification games against Sudan.

Otto Addo later reverted his decision and handed the armband to Jordan Ayew who is the senior most member of the current Black Stars team.
