When Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay) asked Akumaa Mama Zimbi what had kept her at Multimedia Group for 25 years, the veteran broadcaster paused in silence for nearly 20 seconds before finally responding.

“I promised KT [Kwasi Twum, founder and CEO of Multimedia Group, the parent company of Joy and Adom FM] that I would work. Things happened, but you could see it’s because of envy. So, we had managers upon managers. When things happened, some would calm you down. I thank God for giving me that level of patience to be there for 25 years. I’m still waiting on what the Lord will say,” she explained.

Her answer came during an appearance on The Delay Show, where she reflected not only on her career longevity but also on her journey into Ghana’s media space.

Before becoming a household name, Akumaa had already appeared on television prior to 1999. Her move into media came through a chance introduction from Rosemary, a close friend who admired her poise while she worked in architectural printing at Circle.

Inspired by celebrated broadcasters like Beatrice Aidoo, Barbara Gaisei, Akushika Acquaye, and Earl Ankrah, Akumaa was eventually introduced to Joy FM by Rosemary.

Akumaa Mama Zimbi transitioned into broadcasting after her early work in acting and advertising.

Her natural flair for communication, humor, and boldness made her a strong fit for radio and television, especially at a time when many Ghanaian broadcasters shied away from intimate or controversial topics.

Her major breakthrough came with Adom FM, part of the Multimedia Group, where she became the host of the popular late-night program Odo Ahomaso, a relationship and sex education show that quickly gained massive popularity.

Now, 25 years on, Akumaa Mama Zimbi stands out not just for her bold personality and iconic headgear but also for her rare consistency in an industry where many move frequently between stations.
