Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi is a renowned figure in Ghanaian sports, particularly in the country’s basketball space.

His deep passion for basketball led to the formation of his team, Spintex Knights, which is currently the number one basketball team in Ghana.

The distinguished yet humble team owner was born at Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region but grew up in Accra.

He is a former student of Achimota Senior High School, where he began his journey in sports.

Speaking on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check, he revealed that he participated in all sporting activities that involved the use of his hands.

He also disclosed that his fascination with hand-based sports initially led him to play as a goalkeeper in football before transitioning to other hand-related games.

Dr. Opoku-Antwi holds a degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He furthered his studies in China, earning a master’s degree in Sports Medicine and a PhD in Sports Kinesiology from the Shanghai University of Sport.

Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi is married with four children. He is a fan of the Chicago Bulls and also supports Manchester United.

He has made a significant impact on the development of basketball in China, where he helped nurture young talent through recreational basketball programs.

His team, Spintex Knights, is rated as the best in Ghana after becoming the first Ghanaian side to reach the qualifiers of the Elite 16 of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
