Legal practitioner Samuel Kissiedu has described the recent court ruling in the case involving Highlife legend Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa as a technically solid judgment that may be difficult to overturn on appeal.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM on December 1, 2025, the lawyer explained that the case brought before the court involved several complex legal issues, including inheritance, succession, marriage types, and conflict of laws because the couple reportedly married abroad.

According to him, the court’s decision was based heavily on technicalities that worked against the plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa.

“Lumba’s case has raised a number of technical issues. Looking at the inheritance, the succession, the types of marriages and conflict of laws. Conflict of laws was added because they are Ghanaians and got married abroad. It’s actually an interesting judgment,” he said.

Lawyer Kissiedu noted that after reviewing the entire ruling, he was convinced it was “a solid judgment,” stressing that procedural lapses significantly harmed the plaintiff’s case.

“I’ve gone through everything and so far, it has been a solid judgment. When you check it well, you will see that it was the technicalities that beat the plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa. I’m not sure of why that happened.

“Maybe it’s the speedy trial they did that affected them and they couldn’t put the house in order, I can’t really tell but the judge was not happy about the number of issues,” the lawyer stated.

He further disclosed that concerns about the authenticity of some documents, especially the marriage certificate were raised early in the case, yet the plaintiff’s legal team failed to rectify them.

“From the day the court listened to the injunction and they refused the injunction, it came out that there were issues with some of the documents regarding the marriage certificate so the judge was hoping that the lawyer would take the opportunity and put the house in order to correct everything,” he explained.

Samuel continued, “They would authenticate the documents that they’re supposed to authenticate. If they had applied and requested the original and gotten true copies, they were supposed to do all that before the trial began.”

The lawyer added that the judgment offers important lessons on proper documentation and legal procedures.

“Whoever won has won and we’ve learnt a lot from this case. The judge also elaborated on the types of marriages,” he added.
