Bishop Adongo Joseph is the Founder and Presiding Bishop of The Prosperity City Chapel International

Bishop Adongo Joseph, Founder and Presiding Bishop of The Prosperity City Chapel International, has opened up about his remarkable and faith-driven journey from hardship to purpose, detailing how his unwavering commitment to Christianity shaped his life and ministry.

Speaking in an emotional interview with MzGee on Behind The Pulpit, Bishop Adongo described himself as “an idol worshipper’s son,” revealing that his early life was deeply rooted in traditional religious practices.

According to the bishop, his father was a committed idol worshipper, and he was raised in a Muslim household where idol worship was a central part of family life. However, his life took a dramatic turn in 1993, while he was still in secondary school, when he made the decision to give his life to Christ.

That decision, he said, came at a heavy cost.

“When I got born again in 1993, I went home and told my father that I was no longer going to serve idols,” he recounted. “I told him that when they cook idol food, I will not eat it.”

His declaration sparked intense anger from his father, leading to a violent confrontation that would change the course of his life forever.

“My father took a stick and hit me. I passed out. When I regained consciousness, I told him, ‘This Jesus, I am going to serve Him forever.’ He then told me, ‘I have washed my hands from your destiny,’” Bishop Adongo narrated.

That moment marked the beginning of a long season of rejection, struggle, and survival. Disowned by his father, the young Bishop Adongo was forced to fend for himself while still pursuing his education.

“I was pushing trucks. I was pounding fufu in the chop bar,” he revealed.

With no family support, he took on menial jobs and lived off leftovers just to stay alive and remain in school. Yet, through it all, he said his faith never wavered.

Despite the hardship, Bishop Adongo credits those difficult years for strengthening his spiritual resolve and shaping his understanding of purpose, humility, and dependence on God.

Today, Bishop Adongo Joseph stands as the founder of The Prosperity City Chapel International, leading a growing congregation and inspiring many with a testimony rooted in sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering faith.

His story, as shared on Behind The Pulpit, serves as a powerful reminder that purpose can be born from pain — and that conviction, even in the face of rejection, can lead to destiny.
