Ghanaian MC and creative personality, David Adjei Frimpong, popularly known as MC Portfolio, has questioned the extent of state involvement in the funeral of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, citing what he described as poor coordination at the burial grounds.

Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM, MC Portfolio said expectations were high because the funeral had been presented as a state-assisted burial, but what he witnessed suggested otherwise.

“This was supposed to be a state-assisted burial, and from the look of things, I think there is an element missing. I think the hand of the state is missing in terms of their coordination,” he said.

According to him, the overall execution of the funeral did not reflect the stature of the late musician, nor did it align with what one would expect if state institutions were actively involved in planning and coordination.

MC Portfolio attributed the situation partly to a lack of clarity and cohesion among stakeholders, noting that although the state may have had good intentions, the absence of effective coordination was evident on the ground.

“Who wouldn’t want someone who brought presidents and kings together to be given the honour he deserves?” he asked, adding that the problem was not the idea of state support itself, but the inconsistency in its execution.

He, however, acknowledged that the family of the late musician ultimately holds authority over funeral arrangements, stressing that their decisions must be respected even amid public disappointment.

Despite this, MC Portfolio maintained that clearer coordination, especially if the burial was indeed meant to be state-assisted, would have helped deliver a more fitting farewell for Daddy Lumba.
