After two years of his fans waiting for the return of Fameye’s iconic Family Concert, the talented Highlife artiste finally pulled through this year with his show.

Held at Atomic Hills in Accra, the third edition of the Family Concert saw the ‘Very Soon’ hitmaker return to his roots.

In a soulful performance, he treated thousands of fans and revellers to some of his best hits, making up for the abrupt cancellation of the show in December 2023.

But it wasn’t just a Fameye concert. It was a Fameye and Friends concert, bringing some of the biggest acts in the country to help give the fans more than they hoped for.

As incredible as the concert was, there were a few issues of concern, and GhanaWeb highlights the ‘good and bad’ of the show below.

    The Good

    Massive Support

For anyone who still thinks “Ghanaians don’t support their own, the turnout at Fameye’s concert is another reason you should have a re-think of your idea.

The venue was crowded as ever, but the park was large enough to accommodate the stage and fans, who turned out massively.

    The show

The production quality of the show was on point. The lights, sound, even the backdrop and stage management were impressive.

Even the MCs and hypemen kept the crowd entertained.

    The lineup

As usual, Fameye showed love to the up-and-coming artistes, with about 20 budding and energetic acts coming up to show the crowd what they were capable of.

From 10pm when the show kicked off, up-and-coming artistes dominated the stage until 1 am, when Kofi Mole took to the stage to entertain the crowd with his hits.

He was followed by the latest music sensation Kwesi Amenugah, who also drove the crowd crazy with his street hits.

Finally, the headline act, Fameye himself, took to the stage, delivering a graceful performance to a crowd that had waited so long for him. But that was only part one.

The second part of the show saw major artistes take to the stage: Eno Barony, Sista Afia, KiDi, Olive The Boy, Lasmid, Efya, Slimkidd, Mr Drew, Fas Kuuku, Showboy, etc.

These surprise acts put the fire back into an already exhausted crowd that had been standing in the cold and dust for more than seven hours.

At about 4:40 am, Fameye finally came back on stage, dropping his best hits in a climactic end to an iconic show.

    The bad

However, the major problem the show faced was the same thing that affects almost every show in Ghana: GMT (Ghana Man Time).

The flyer indicated a start time of 6 pm, but the show itself did not start until around 10 pm. Twelve hours from the time posted on the flyer, the show finally ended.

    Backstage organization

The backstage could have been better, as the distance between the car park and stage was quite long. There was the risk of celebrities being mobbed by fans as the security was not entirely up to scratch.

Overall, it was an exciting experience for both performers and patrons, but Fameye and his team would want to pay attention to the minor issues raised to improve the experience next year.
