Edwin Gyimah's latest attempts to secure a club continue to fall flat Edwin Gyimah’s latest attempts to secure a club continue to fall flat

The once-reliable Ghanaian defender cum midfielder, Edwin Gyimah finds himself in the shadows of his past as his latest attempts to secure a club continue to fall flat.

The 34-year-old former Ghana international has not featured in a competitive match since November 12, 2023, his final appearance for South African side Sekhukhune United. His exit from Babina Noko was marred by controversy, with whispers of internal issues surfacing around the time of the club’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign that same month.

Though details remain murky, what is clear is that Gyimah and Sekhukhune United parted ways a few months later under strained circumstances.

Since then, the veteran defender has been on an unfruitful search for a new home. Trials with South African clubs Marumo Gallants and Magesi failed to materialize into contracts, leaving Gyimah without a club as the 2025/26 season approaches.

Gyimah’s storied career in South Africa includes stints with SuperSport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits, and Black Leopards. However, reports of controversial exits, particularly at Pirates and Leopards, have cast long shadows over his professional prospects.

It now appears that the weight of these past allegations may be limiting his options, especially within South Africa, where clubs remain wary of his off-field reputation.

Gyimah’s name was reportedly presented to Zimbabwean giants Dynamos FC, a club with a storied past that includes a CAF Champions League final appearance in 1998.

Despite their urgent need for experience and defensive reinforcements, Dynamos officials opted to conduct a thorough background check. Following their findings, the Harare-based club decided against pursuing Gyimah, choosing instead to move forward with two other Ghanaian players: Mohammed Issaka and Felix Hammond.

As the opportunities dwindle, Edwin Gyimah’s career hangs in the balance haunted not by a lack of ability, but by a lingering reputation that continues to follow him from club to club.
