The Electoral Commission (EC) has come under fire from Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special assistant to NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, for the alleged ballot paper shortages in some areas of the Volta Region.

The impacted regions are Ho Central, Hohoe, Ho West, Keta, and Ketu North.

The shortage was revealed by the EC on November 28 and has caused widespread alarm. On November 29, the Commission assured the public that steps were being taken to address the issue and stressed that it was not exclusive to the Volta Region during a press briefing.

However, Bawah Mogtari questioned the EC’s ability to smoothly oversee the election process and accused it of being ineffective. She alluded to the possibility that the shortages might not be coincidental but rather represent more serious structural issues inside the Commission.

Speaking to law students and legal professionals at the Legal Green Forum, she emphasized the importance of responsibility and transparency. In light of the upcoming elections in December, she asked the EC to move quickly to resolve the issue and preserve public trust.

“We’ve previously stated that the Electoral Commission is incapable of handling the job. Their behavior is not that of an autonomous entity. Many partisans are masquerading as commissioners, which is why we have long suspected this. I’m happy these mistakes have been noticed, as they highlight the EC’s incompetence.”

“They are printing more than they need, even at the printing houses,” we were informed. The good thing about this is that we are now extremely watchful. We have put a lot of effort into revealing the EC’s prejudices and ineptitude at every stage.

She emphasized the party’s resolve to uphold the election’s integrity.

In this election, the NDC is expected to prevail. Change is desperately needed by Ghanaians, and we will make sure that every vote is safeguarded. We’ve trained our poll workers correctly, and we’re ready to win,” she promised.
