Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has voiced concern over the conduct of the party’s current leadership, stating that they have been unfair to the pioneers who helped build the party.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb during the NPP’s 2025 Annual Delegates Conference, held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Obiri Boahen said the new generation of executives has shown a lack of regard for their predecessors.

Responding to former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s remarks about being sidelined by the party, Obiri Boahen clarified,

“I haven’t said we’ve been sidelined, but I believe the current generation of executives has not treated us fairly.”

He added, “How is it possible for the NPP to hold a programme in Kumasi and fail to inform some of the party’s pioneers? The same thing happened in Sunyani. The party cannot continue organising events without involving the older generation. The current leadership seems focused only on moving forward without looking back, and that’s not fair.”

Meanwhile, Obiri Boahen also urged former party leaders to reciprocate fairness and support the current executives, cautioning against backing only those with family ties.

He emphasised the importance of building broad-based support within the party.
