The campaign communication van of Sammi Awuku, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North, was set ablaze in Mamfe Akuapem, Eastern Region, on Friday, November 22, 2024 ¹. The van was destroyed, including the sound system and other equipment used for campaign activities.
It’s reported that the van was accompanying First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, who was campaigning in the area dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) . This incident raises concerns about the safety and security of campaign materials and personnel.
The incident has sparked concerns about the escalating tensions and potential violence in the run-up to the elections. The Akuapem North constituency is considered a key battleground, and the destruction of the campaign van may be seen as an attempt to disrupt the NPP’s campaign efforts.
