Mr Alex Amezar Maxy, a football scout and development coach at Akatsi in the Volta Region, has urged young footballers to derive motivation from Terry Yegbe, a former player of Akatsi-based second division team, Kickers Football Club.

He said young footballers should be more disciplined and respectful and work harder to attain higher heights in their football careers.

Mr. Amezar, in an interview with Ghana News Agency Sports, stated that only hard work, self-discipline, dedication, perseverance, and prayer could help develop and unearth more skilful talents.

“I unearthed Terry Yegbe some years ago and brought him to Kickers FC, a second division club in Akatsi, and he was so dedicated and disciplined in taking instructions. I am happy today that he has been called to play for the Black Stars,” he said.

He said that the 23-year-old versatile defender, Terry Yegbe, is currently a ‘hotcake’ across Europe, with clubs such as Fulham, Union Berlin, Crystal Palace, and Sheffield United reportedly chasing for his signature.

Mr. Amezar described Terry Yegbe as a well-behaved and talented player who moved from Kickers to join West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) and then to Vision Football Club before going abroad for greener pastures.

“He is currently playing for IF Elfsborg in the Swedish league after moving from Finnish side SJK Seinajoki earlier this year. He was earlier called to represent the under-23 side for Ghana last year. Discipline is the only key that can take everyone to a successful land.”

Terry Yegbe, popularly known as Cantona, is among the seven players who received a late call-up from Otto Addo, the coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, after some eight other regular players withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars’ hope of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco was shattered after picking just three points from a possible 15 in five matches, with a recent 1-1 draw with Angola.

Ghana will now regroup and mount another attack on Niger in their last qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, to wrap up the African Cup of Nations matches.

Angola and Sudan have now qualified from Group F with 13 and 7 points respectively, with Niger and Ghana on four and three points each with a game in hand.

Ghana Black Stars, the four-time AFCON champions, will not participate in AFCON for the first time in 20 years after they failed to qualify for the upcoming tournament in Morocco 2025.
