The Centre of the World Golf Course hosted a landmark event over the weekend as the inaugural Tema Ladies Open brought together over 100 golfers from across the country for a three-day championship.
Played under favourable weather conditions, the tournament showcased the growing depth of golf in Ghana, with professionals, scratch players, and amateurs competing across multiple divisions. Despite its title, the event featured both men and women, reflecting the sport’s expanding appeal nationwide.
The final round delivered thrilling moments, with standout performances in both the main competitions and novelty contests. Helen Appau, Francis Panty, Kassim Diibjri, and Wendy Gyan claimed honours for longest drive and closest-to-the-pin challenges.
In the senior categories, Paul Ayitah secured victory in the Men’s Senior Division, while Appau added to her tally by winning the Ladies Senior title. George Mensah triumphed in Men’s Group A, with James Otoo and Roy Aboku winning Groups B and C respectively.
At the elite level, Cathy Fabbi impressed to win the Ladies Scratch Event, while Kingsley Afful dominated the men’s category. Gladys Awuni clinched the Ladies Division A title, highlighting her consistency throughout the competition.
In the professional ranks, Vivien Kouame edged Jessica Tei in the Ladies division, while Godwin Sai delivered a commanding performance to win the Men’s Professional title.
The tournament concluded as a successful debut, signaling a bright future for competitive golf in Ghana.
