A teenager has been arrested after two women in their late 50s were killed this morning in a car crash in the Greater Manchester area.

The 57 and 59-year-old women were both pedestrians and suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene in Bolton.

Police were alerted to the collision just before 8 am.

The 19-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of causing two deaths by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody to be interviewed by detectives.

Police said the motorist of a VW Polo driving down Scout Road hit two women who were walking down Smithills Dean Road.

Police have launched an investigation with the Serious Crash Unit, which is ongoing, and are asking for dashcam footage.
