Ghana's Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah

The Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has called for renewed efforts to drive digital transformation across Ghana and the African continent, describing technology as essential for economic development and inclusive growth.

He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the inaugural MOBEX Africa Partnership Day, held in Accra on July 31, 2025.

The event, themed “Powering Innovations Through Partnerships,” brought together government officials, private sector leaders, development partners, startups, and civil society organisations.

Debrah stressed that digital technology is no longer a luxury but a critical tool for national development. He urged stakeholders to invest in innovation, digital infrastructure, and skills development to prepare Africa’s youth for the digital economy.

“Digital technology is a lifeline for development. The future belongs to nations that empower their people through innovation,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of MOBEX Africa, George Spencer Quaye, on his part underscored the importance of partnerships in building Africa’s digital future.

He noted that Africa is at a critical turning point and that collaboration between government, businesses, and innovators is necessary to overcome challenges such as infrastructure deficits, regulatory gaps, and digital exclusion.

“At the heart of Mobex Africa’s mission is the belief that no single entity can transform the continent alone. It is through partnerships that these efforts are amplified and sustained,” Quaye said.

“Governments may create enabling policies, enterprises may develop solutions, and innovators may bring ideas to life – but it is through partnerships that these efforts are amplified and sustained,” he added.

Quaye further argued that the continent is at a critical inflection point that requires coordinated, cross-sector solutions.

The event also showcased initiatives under the MOBEX Africa platform, including technology expos, digital skills programs, innovation challenges, and investment opportunities aimed at promoting digital sovereignty and competitiveness.

Quaye expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his long-standing support of MOBEX Africa, noting that he had encouraged the platform in 2016 to lead the charge for digital transformation across the continent.
