Winfried Schäfer, Technical Advisor of the Black Stars Winfried Schäfer, Technical Advisor of the Black Stars

Newly-appointed Technical Advisor of the Black Stars, Winfried Schäfer is set to receive a monthly salary of $65,000, making him one of the highest-paid members of Ghana’s coaching staff.

In addition to his salary, Schäfer stands to earn a significant bonus if he helps head coach Otto Addo secure Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Despite Schäfer’s lucrative deal, Otto Addo’s monthly salary remains unchanged at $50,000, according to reports by Pure FM.

Schäfer, who boasts over 20 years of coaching experience, will collaborate with head coach Otto Addo, Desmond Ofei, and John Paintsil to build a competitive team.

These new appointments reflect the GFA’s determination to strengthen the Black Stars’ technical setup as they aim to recover from a disappointing 2024—a year in which Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations—and secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I of the 2026 Africa World Cup qualifiers with nine points, level with group leaders Comoros.
