The Techiman South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Kweku Adjei Mensah, has showered praise on the government’s “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative, hailing it as a transformative policy and the most widely embraced programme to date.

According to the MCE, the initiative has seen an overwhelming response in his municipality, with public demand far outstripping the available supply. This, he noted, stands in stark contrast to the ridicule it faced from the opposition prior to its implementation. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) had previously repudiated the policy, using it as a campaign tool against the government. However, its successful rollout has silenced critics and turned it into a highly sought-after commodity.

Speaking in an interview with President Kaunda of Techiman-based Winners FM, Sunday, February 22, 2026, Hon. Mensah revealed that the intense criticism initially made him question the policy’s viability. “But upon its rollout in my district, the level of interest was incredibly high,” he stated. “As the MCE for this district, I have not witnessed any government policy receive such popular support as Nkoko Nkitinkiti.”

The MCE observed that the policy’s appeal cuts across all segments of society. “From the elderly to technocrats, from the low-income earners, to the middle class, to the high echelons of society, and even the well-educated—everyone is involved in this programme,” he revealed.

Seizing the opportunity presented by the interview, Hon. Mensah appealed to the government to consider expanding the initiative to accommodate more beneficiaries. He acknowledged the government’s existing plans to support large-scale poultry farmers but stressed the need to broaden the programme’s reach, replicating the success of the pilot phase. “The initial phase covered about 300 to 400 people,” the MCE disclosed. “I am hoping the next phase will cover about a thousand.”

Offering advice to current beneficiaries, Mr. Mensah encouraged them to diligently care for the birds, reminding them that a monitoring team has been commissioned to assess the pilot programme’s progress. He urged them to ensure a low mortality rate and outlined a path to self-sufficiency. “After a successful first round, when the birds are sold, the beneficiary can buy new chicks and start the process again,” he explained. “Gradually, that individual can become a farmer and earn a good living.”

In his concluding remarks, Hon. Kweku Adjei Mensah drew a striking comparison with other landmark social interventions. While acknowledging the enthusiasm that greeted policies like the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and Free Senior High School (Free SHS), he asserted the unique impact of the poultry programme. “I am aware of the excitement during the launch of health insurance and Free SHS,” he noted. “But I can say, without any shred of doubt, that Nkoko Nkitinkiti ranks number one and surpasses all others.”
