There were scenes of wailing and disbelief when the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, visited the family of one of the six people who died in the stampede that occurred during the commencement of the 2025/2026 military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The Awutu Senya East MP, according to Ablade TV Online, visited the family of one of the deceased in her constituency to commiserate with them.

A video shared by Ablade TV captured the emotional scene during the MP’s visit.

Naa Koryoo Okunor, upon getting to the house, could be seen consoling some of the family members who were wailing.

She informed them that their daughter, whom she named as Grace, was among the victims of the stampede who lost their lives.

“The six people who died, our daughter Grace is among them,” she reportedly said.

After the announcement, the wailing started again.

One of the women is then heard saying, “It is not true. It is not her,” as others in the house wailed louder.

The MP indicated that she was sent by the President, John Dramani Mahama, to console the family, adding that the president himself and the Acting Minister of Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, would visit the family.

Although the identities of the six victims have not been disclosed yet, President Mahama stated that all six people who died in the tragic stampede were females.

Speaking in Kumasi during the launch of the Nkoko Nkitinkitin programme, the president expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced the immediate suspension of the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in Accra to allow for a comprehensive review of the process.

“At this difficult moment, we mourn the loss of six young Ghanaian ladies whose lives were cut short in their quest for opportunity.

“I have directed that the recruitment process in Accra be halted immediately while the system is reviewed to prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy,” he added.
