Edem (R) criticizes Team Eternity's (L) absence at 2025 TGMA Edem (R) criticizes Team Eternity’s (L) absence at 2025 TGMA

Entertainment pundit cum publicist, Edem Mensah-Tsotorme, has mentioned that popular Gospel music group, Team Eternity, did not place premium on the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Speaking during a discussion on Hitz FM on August 26, 2025, Edem explained that the group’s absence was not because of scheduling conflicts, but because they do not place the same level of importance on the award scheme as others in the industry.

We couldn’t make it to TGMAs because we were booked for a production in London – Team Eternity

Team Eternity had earlier explained in an interview with Nii Noi that they were unable to attend the event because they had a production in London on the same day as the event.

But according to Edem, that explanation rather exposed the group. He added that they valued their recording projects above the TGMA platform.

“It would tell you that, they did not put premium on the TGMA but were putting on their recording and among others. From where I sit as a person in the communication space, I think that such platforms are very important because…

“When you are developing a product, from the beginning where the starting point, you need a lot of media attention and promotion to be able to get the product out there. So at these stages, from a marketing perspective, you need to take advantage of these opportunities,” he said.

According to Edem, award platforms like the TGMAs are vital for artistes who are rising and gaining traction. He indicated that they provide visibility, validation, and the kind of industry recognition that can help sustain a career.

Edem stated that he was disappointed that Team Eternity did not attend, especially given the spotlight they had enjoyed the year under review.

Over the years, Team Eternity has sparked conversations in the industry over alleged copyright infringements related to their song ‘Defe Defe’.

Edem believes the TGMA would have been the perfect platform for them to address the issue and take advantage of the spotlight.

“For me I was disappointed when I did not see them. I thought it was a year they had a lot of spotlights, the brouhaha which came around their songs and other things, they could have tapped in,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, the organisers of the TGMA, confirmed that Team Eternity informed them ahead of time that most of their members would be out of town and would therefore be unable to perform at the event.
