A Nigerian teacher’s candid story about a humbling encounter with a pupil at Chrisland School, VGC, Lagos, has gone viral on X (Twitter).

In the now-viral post, the teacher narrated how he took up a temporary teaching gig at the elite Lagos school during summer classes only to be confronted with several moments of culture shock.

According to him, one of the most unforgettable incidents occurred after a class session when a young pupil, estimated to be between 8 and 11 years old, innocently asked where he had parked his car.

The teacher said he was left speechless and deeply humbled, adding that he waited for the pupils to enter the swimming hall before leaving the school to avoid further embarrassment.

“A female pupil (maybe around 8–11 years old), who was on her way to the swimming hall, walked up to me with two of her classmates and asked, “Where did you park your car?” Faking a smile, I replied in a shaky voice, “I don’t have a car.” Looking surprised, she asked, “Why don’t you have a car?” At that point, honestly, I wished rapture would just happen and take me away. I laughed awkwardly and said, “Nothing, I just don’t have a car.” She laughed and said, “That’s weird, my cousin has a car and he’s just 17.” Then she walked away giggling with her friends. I stood there, humbled and still in shock. I brought out my phone, pretending to want to make a call (I would call a car dealer at that moment if I had the money) but I was really just waiting for them to enter the swimming hall before I left. Because if that girl saw me again or asked one more question, I might’ve burst into tears.” He wrote

He concluded the post with the saying, All fingers are not equal, admitting that although he laughed it off, the experience made him rethink his life choices and circumstances.
