TARKWA NSUAEM NPP REJECTS MIREKU DUKER’S APPOINTMENT AS CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR FOR DR. BAWUMIA IN THE WESTERN REGION

We write to express our strongest displeasure with the appointment of Hon. George Mireku Duker as the campaign coordinator for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the Western Region.

We find it shocking that hardworking Members of Parliament (from Western Region) such as Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah and Hon. Joe Mensah and Hon. Joe Ghartey who have consistently worked to maintain NPP seats and presence in the region, have been bypassed in favour of Hon. Duker, an MP who lost his seat to the NDC in the 2024 general elections.

We wish to state emphatically that the appointment of Hon. Duker as campaign coordinator will not only hurt Dr. Bawumia’s chances in the Western Region but will undermine the significant progress the party has made in consolidating support for the NPP incoming presidential candidate.

It is important to recall that prior to the 2024 elections, Mr. Duker was appointed campaign coordinator for the mining constituencies of Ghana. He gave strong assurances that he would deliver all mining constituency seats to Dr. Bawumia. To this end, he was entrusted with significant resources, including financial support, to execute his mandate.

However, he failed woefully in that role. Not only did the NPP lose several key mining constituencies, but Mr. Duker also lost his own ‘mining’ seat with a margin of nearly 9,000 votes.

This failure raises critical questions: How can someone who failed to retain his own mining seat and could not deliver on his promises be rewarded with an even bigger responsibility?

The answer is evident. Mr. Duker is widely perceived as vindictive, corrupt, incompetent, and divisive. His leadership has torn the party apart in Tarkwa Nsuaem, making the NPP unattractive to the very constituents we seek to win over. The decline in NPP’s votes in Tarkwa Nsuaem between the 2020 and 2024 elections is a direct result of his poor leadership and inability to unite the party base.

We, the concerned members of the NPP fraternity in Tarkwa Nsuaem, who genuinely care about Dr. Bawumia’s success and the future of the party, are convinced that Mr. Duker is not fit to serve as campaign coordinator for the Western Region. His failure to coordinate and mobilize effective campaign efforts in his own constituency led to a humiliating loss of what was once considered a traditional NPP stronghold.

If left unaddressed, this appointment will reverse the gains made by Dr. Bawumia in the Western Region and weaken the NPP’s prospects of regaining lost seats in the 2028 elections.

In light of the above, we respectfully call for a reconsideration of Mr. Duker’s appointment. We recommend the selection of a more effective, unifying, and results-driven leader to coordinate Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in the Western Region; someone who will inspire confidence, energize the grassroots, and deliver results. Let us put the interest of the party and its future first. Thank you.
