Police fired warning shots to disperse aggrieved students

Several students of the Tamale Technical University (TTU) have reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries after a protest erupted into chaotic and violent scenes.

The protest, which was said to have begun peacefully, took a turn for the worse when police, in an attempt to disperse the aggrieved students, fired warning shots and used water cannons against the protesters.

According to a TV3 report on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the students were protesting against the school’s management.

The students cited neglect, misappropriation and mismanagement of funds, and an unjustified increase in school fees by the management.

Videos shared by the platform on Facebook capture some students responding to the police’s drastic measures by pelting stones at police vehicles.

Additionally, one of the students injured during the police’s actions was seen with cuts on his leg, which appeared visibly swollen.
