Ghana Premier League legend, Charles Taylor Ghana Premier League legend, Charles Taylor

Former Accra Hearts of Oak winger, Charles Taylor has slammed Ghanaian coaches for failing to develop the gifted and talented players in the Ghana Premier League and other local competitions.

Charles Taylor believes Ghana is blessed with an abundance of footballing talent, but the country has failed to harness it to reach the very top of the game.

The 2000 CAF Champions League winner said Ghana’s failure to produce world-class talent is due to a lack of quality coaches capable of nurturing players for the global stage.

Speaking to Sporty FM’s Sports Drive, the former Hearts of Oak and Kotoko star described Ghanaian coaches as lazy, saying they rarely learn or grow on the job, which makes it difficult to properly prepare young players for the international stage.

“Ghana has talented players, but coaches are lazy. They are not polishing players,” Charles Taylor said.

Taylor enjoyed a stellar sixteen-year career, playing for Accra Great Olympics, Étoile du Sahel, Enugu Rangers, Berekum Chelsea, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

He made sixteen appearances for the Black Stars and also played in Ghana’s 2006 World Cup qualifying games.
