A sports and culture organisation, Street Academy, has received medical supplies worth $1,000 to stock the academy’s clinic located on its premises.

The donation, made by the Tabernacle Church, USA, formed part of the church’s outreach efforts to support vulnerable and underprivileged communities across the globe.

Madam Penninah Osei Poku, an entrepreneur who facilitated the donation, said the items were meant to support the academy’s health services for the children and members of the surrounding community.

She explained that as a former national service personnel at Street Academy, she was familiar with the challenges facing the institution and therefore initiated the support by linking the academy to the Heywan family of the Tabernacle Church through a personal connection.

The Heywan family, who were in Ghana on a visit, took the opportunity to donate to the academy. During their visit, they also interacted with the children, taught them and played with them, and observed the urgent need to strengthen the academy’s Health Post.

Miss Felicia Owusu, a Nursing Officer at Street Academy, said the donation included various antibiotics such as Azithromycin and Amoxiclav, analgesics including Brufen, blood supplements, anti-malaria drugs, sanitary pads for the girls, and other essential medications.

She noted that the most common illnesses treated at the clinic included malaria, infections, typhoid and wound infections. She therefore appealed to individuals, government agencies and pharmaceutical companies to support the academy with medical supplies, adding that the facility also served members of the community free of charge.

“We’re grateful to Madam Osei Poku and the Church. These medications will go a long way in helping us treat illnesses, prevent complications and promote health in general. We hope this will not be their last time,” Miss Owusu said.

The Founder and Executive Director of Street Academy, Mr Ataa Lartey, commended the donors for the gesture, stressing that investing in the health and education of people, especially underprivileged children, remained one of the greatest services to humanity.
