The Baba Yara Sports Stadium was alive with colour, noise and fierce competition as 30 senior high schools converged for the 2025/26 Ashanti Region Schools Athletics Zone 1 Qualifiers.
Over two gripping days, Monday, February 2 to Tuesday, February 3, 2026, young athletes battled for supremacy and qualification to the Super Zonal stage.
From the opening heats to the final field events, the standard was high, but once again, T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Kumasi, stood tall.
T.I. AMASS’ historic dominance
History was made as T.I. Ahmadiyya secured their 17th consecutive inter-co double, clinching both the Boys and Girls division titles emphatically.

Their dominance was particularly overwhelming in the Girls Division, where they amassed a mammoth 216 points to finish clear at the top.
Joining them in the Girls Super Zonal qualification spots were:
Effiduase Senior High Commercial School
Asanteman Senior High School
St. Monica’s SHS
Aduman SHS
Serwaa Nyarko SHS
In the Boys Division, it was yet another success story for T.I. Ahmadiyya. Effiduase Senior High Commercial School finished second, followed by Asanteman SHS in third. Osei Tutu Boys’ School, Aduman SHS and Mpasatia SHTS completed the top six.
The question now lingers: can T.I. AMASS translate this regional dominance into Super Zonal glory?
Sprint brilliance and field event fireworks
The Girls 100m final produced one of the standout moments of Day Two. Fulera Sulemana of T.I. AMASS stormed to gold, reinforcing her school’s sprint pedigree. St. Monica’s SHS took silver, while another T.I. AMASS athlete secured bronze, underlining their depth in the short sprints.
In the Boys High Jump, Rahim Yakubu of T.I. Ahmadiyya soared to 1.95m to clinch gold in commanding fashion. The Form 3 Visual Arts student edged out Daniel Ayama of Asanteman SHS, whose 1.90m clearance earned him silver.
The Girls Javelin delivered both power and promise. Erica Frimpomaa of St. Monica’s SHS dominated with a winning throw of 36.58m.
Close behind was her schoolmate, SHS 1 standout Comfort Maye, who impressed with a throw of 35.99m to claim silver, a performance that hints at a very bright future.
Fidaus Abdullai of Asanteman SHS secured bronze, adding further quality to a competitive field.
A festival of schools athletics
Schools including Aduman SHS, Kumasi Senior High Technical, Osei Tutu SHS, Wesley High School, Bekwai, Presbyterian Girls SHS and several others added colour and competition to the two-day festival of athletics.
By the time the curtain fell on Tuesday evening, medals had been won, records threatened and reputations strengthened. Above all, T.I. Ahmadiyya’s era of dominance continued, 17 straight doubles and counting.
The Super Zonal awaits.
