The General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Charles Osei Asibey, has disclosed that the association is considering honoring two of Ghana’s football legends, Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan, for their exceptional contributions to the sport.

According to Asibey, this initiative is part of SWAG’s efforts to recognize the remarkable achievements and dedication of the two players to Ghanaian football.

The recognition is being considered for the upcoming SWAG Awards, scheduled for Friday, January 24, 2025.

Speaking during an interview on Asempa FM, Asibey acknowledged that this information was initially meant to be confidential but explained that the association believes Dede Ayew and Asamoah Gyan deserve special recognition.

“This is something that I don’t have to say because it’s private, however, we have made plans to honor the legendary Asamoah Gyan and Dede Ayew for their contributions to Ghana football, so we will continue to consider it,” he stated.

However, Asibey clarified that no special awards have been designated for the legends at this time.

“There is no special award for them at the moment; we are not in those times,” he added.
