THE leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) on Monday paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Sports and Recreation (MoSR), Kofi Iddie Adams, to deepen strategic collaboration and rally stronger institutional support for the growth of the sector.

The delegation, led by Kwabena Yeboah, President of SWAG, marked a first official engagement between the association and the minister since his assumption of office.

Mr Yeboah in his address commended the minister for his open-door policy that has allowed stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the sports ecosystem.

“We have been extremely impressed with your relationship with sports journalists in this country. Even before you were formally appointed, you came to our office which is unprecedented and we are most humbled,” Mr Kwabena Yeboah said in a statement issued yesterday.

He further praised the ministry’s support that facilitated Ghana’s active participation at the recent AIPS Congress in Gambia, making positive headlines across African and global platforms.

The SWAG President emphasised that such international exposure underscores the importance of sports as an economic enabler for Africa.

The renowned sports journalist appealed for increased publicity and support to ensure the fund’s growth, stressing the critical need for grassroots sports development.

Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, also expressed appreciation for SWAG’s role as a powerful voice in the sports sector, emphasising the importance of constructive criticism and productive journalism in shaping the sector’s future.

The minister is, therefore, committed to collaborating with the association to develop training modules aimed at enhancing the capacity of sports journalists.

The Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency again urged more publicity to attract investors and foster local talent.

Other members of the delegation included Vice President, Evelyn Nsiah Asare; General Secretary, Charles Osei Asibey; Deputy General Secretary, Kenneth Odeng Adade; and Treasurer Owuraku Nsiah, alongside other key officials of the association.
