Ghana police and military forces in a joint operation has arrested a man in Nkwanta on August 1, 2025, for possessing illegal firearms.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com on August 3, 2025, the intelligence-led raid targeted Francis Donkor, 50, who is suspected of being involved in recent violent riots in the area.

“Acting on a tip, security forces cordoned off an area near King’s Filling Station Down. A search of Donkor’s room uncovered two single-barrel guns and four AAA ammunition rounds,” the myjoyonline.com report stated.

He was reportedly taken into custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The seized weapons and ammunition according to the police will be used as evidence.

This arrest follows a period of escalating tensions and sporadic violence in Nkwanta in the Oti Region.

The Nkwanta South Municipality has been particularly affected by chieftaincy and land disputes that have led to violence, property destruction, and displacement.

The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace in the region and warned the public against illegal possession of firearms, which is a serious crime.

Investigations are however ongoing, to further unravel details on the matter.
