Sudan national team coach Kwasi Appiah is brimming with optimism ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, expressing confidence in his team’s ability to excel on the continental stage.

Appiah has already made history by guiding Sudan back to the AFCON for the first time since 2021, leading his side to top Group F in a remarkable qualification campaign that saw them edge out Ghana and Niger.

Sudan have been drawn into a challenging Group E, which includes 2019 champions Algeria and 2013 finalists Burkina Faso, presenting a tough test for Appiah and his team.

Despite the stiff competition, the experienced coach remains confident and determined.

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, he outlined his ambitions for Sudan in Morocco.

“The AFCON in Morocco is going to be interesting. Sudan are in Group E, and all the teams are really good. But if you’re participating in a competition, your aim should be to win the cup. If you’re afraid of any team, then why are you competing in the first place? I believe Sudan will perform very well, and I’m hopeful that against any team we meet, we will give our best to secure victory,” he said.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco on December 21, 2025, and concludes on January 18, 2026.

This will mark Appiah’s second appearance at the tournament as a coach, following his stint with Ghana in 2019, where he led the Black Stars to the round of 16.
