Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says their campaign will only be described as a success if they win the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana, for the first time in nine years, have booked a place in the quarterfinal of the tournament following a 4-1 win against Tanzania in their final Group C game on Monday July 14, 2025.

Speaking to Joy Sports, the midfielder believes the Black Queens have earned the right to be respected on the continent.

“[This tournament will only be successful for me] when we take the trophy,” she said. “I think we deserve it. I think we deserve the respect from African football.

“I want to give this continent so much respect, but I also want to gain it. The only way you gain it is by performing, by showing who we are.

“So, a successful tournament for me is taking home the only thing that you can take home [the trophy],” he added.

Ghana’s next game is against Algeria on Saturday, July 19,2025, at the Berkane Stadium, with hopes of advancing into the semifinals.

Kick-off for the game has been scheduled to kick off at 17:00 GMT.
