The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has called for decisive action against the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Amansie Central, in an alleged illegal mining taxation scheme.

The MP insisted that the official must be dismissed and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com on Monday, February 9, 2026, Darko underscored the need for accountability in public office, stressing that mere dismissal would be insufficient.

“This is a call the Minority will wholeheartedly support; not just the dismissal, but also prosecution. We need to set a very good example and deter people,” he stated.

He explained that punishment under criminal law is intended to prevent similar misconduct by others, adding that deterrence is a key objective of criminal jurisprudence.

“The purpose of punishment under criminal jurisprudence is to deter people, at least one of them, apart from defamation,” he said.

Darko further argued that prosecuting the DCE would send a strong signal to other government officials, particularly those involved in the management of the country’s natural resources.

“So, I think that we should use this person to set an example to other DCEs and government officials who will even dream of engaging in this blatant destruction of our natural resources.

“So, obviously, we will support that and not just dismissal; prosecute such people. Beyond the dismissal, the government has to be proactive,” he added.
