The recruitment of personnel into the police service through the ‘protocol system’ poses a danger to the future of the security agency, a former Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Bright Oduro has warned.
Mr. Oduro said unlike, in the past, protocol recruitments into the police service are becoming rampant.
“Recently, it appears that the recruitment was being done on protocol level and the fear is that we will not recruit the right material and if we are not careful and we recruit dangerous people, criminals, then you and I will not be safe”, he cautioned.
“So, we need to go back to our recruitment plan so that we put an end to this whole protocol arrangement,” he told Kofi Oppong Asamoah on Class91.3FM’s Class Morning Show.
He acknowledged that “of course, there have been protocols in the past before but, at least, go through the mill and then if you fail to reach the pass mark, then, of course, some help can be accorded you and it’s also protocol but not when names of people are presented to the police for them to be recruited into the police service without proper vetting, without background checks and that is the danger and I believe this time, the police is going to do well.”
Apart from the police service, the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces, and Ghana National Fire Service are all recruiting personnel currently.
